Your Privacy
The law protects the relationship between a client and a therapist, and information cannot be disclosed without written permission from the client.
Exceptions to confidentiality include:
While I use reasonable safeguards to protect electronic communication, I cannot guarantee the confidentiality of email since it is not a secure form of communication. Please use your discretion when emailing me.
Social Media Policies:
Because of ethical considerations, I do not accept “friend” or contact requests from current or former patients on any social/professional networking site (Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.). These types of connections may compromise your confidentiality and our respective privacy. These connections also may blur the boundaries of our therapeutic relationship and potentially have unforeseen negative consequences for you as my patient.
Exceptions to confidentiality include:
- Suspected child abuse or dependent adult or elder abuse, for which I am required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities immediately.
- If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s, I must notify the police and inform the intended victim.
- If a client intends to harm himself or herself, I will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If they do not cooperate, I will take further measures without their permission that are provided to me by law in order to ensure their safety.
